Capillary thermostats and safety limiters are industrial applications, created to control the temperature in many household appliances. When companies install a capillary thermostat in their products, they can choose between different models and materials, depending on the intervention temperature range and the type of action required by the thermostat. Since thermostats and capillary safety limiters are intended to be integrated into other equipment, their construction is regulated by the European standard EN 60730-1.
We will now see in which applications these types of capillary thermostats are used.
Gas boilers
The installation of both thermoregulators and safety limiters is recommended for these appliances, as the capillary thermostat is positioned on the exchanger or on the main water pipe together with the thermometer, while the safety limiter has the function of reducing risks due to overheating, in the event of breakdowns, and can be used in chimneys as a smoke anti-return control. In the event of an obstruction, in fact, the smoke would increase the internal temperature and the safety limiter would stop combustion, avoiding the risk of accumulation of very dangerous substances, such as carbon monoxide (CO), in the environment where the boiler is installed.
Condensing boilers
Also in this case, it is possible to install both the thermostat and the safety limiter on the appliances. The thermoregulator is positioned on the exchanger or on the main water pipe to regulate heating. The safety limiter has the function of reducing the risks due to overheating in the event of faults, it acts by blocking the gas valve and must be reset manually.
Oil boilers and burners
In addition, of course, to the capillary thermostats and limiters, in some installations could be used a contact thermostat on the heating pipe for the pump start, after the burner starting.
Wood boilers
These appliances can use an adjustable thermostat and a safety limiter, but the installation and positioning of these devices are essential in this type of appliance. Generally, the purpose is to stop combustion, avoid overheating of the wastewater, or starting the cooling fan.
Pellet boilers and stoves
In these products, the thermostat and the safety limiter safeguard the pellet tank, cutting off the power supply and/or the chimney. The capillary thermostats and limiters can also be coupled with external heat exchangers for switching on the pump or priority valve system, while the renewable energy system is coupled to a conventional gas or oil system.
Sandwich machines, hot plates and similar appliances
Capillary thermostats for high temperatures (typically greater than 200°C) are used on these products. The aim is to reduce the consumption of electricity in case of non-use and to keep the plates at the operating temperature.
Showcases and refrigerated counters
Commonly used in supermarkets for storing fresh food, in display cabinets and wine cellars, for storing beverages or for smokers, these devices use thermostats with nickel-plated probes (aesthetic requirement) to control the temperature in the cell.
Instrument sterilizers
These equipments are used by doctors and medical laboratories, dentists, hairdressers, etc. Here are installed regulators and safety limiters combined with a thermometer to display the temperature. Considering the significant value of this equipment, electronic boards are also required, customized with specific functions according to the customer’s needs.
